The closing reception was organised by the University of Latvia (UL) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science (MoES), expressing gratitude to everyone whose work, support and involvement contributed to the success of the festival.
UL Vice-Rector for Development & Innovation Enno Ence expressed appreciation for the University’s contribution and praised the team’s expertise and ability to successfully organise the festival, bringing young people together through music, dance and shared experiences.
Meanwhile, Minister of Education and Science Ilze Indriksone highlighted the singers’ and dancers’ ability to maintain unity and coordination even in challenging weather conditions. She also expressed gratitude to all festival participants and organisers for their dedication, responsibility and energy, which made it possible to hold the XX Baltic Student Song and Dance Festival.
The XX Baltic Student Song and Dance Festival “Gaudeamus” was made possible through the extensive involvement of organisers, artists, ensemble leaders, volunteers, cooperation partners and supporters. The closing reception recognised everyone whose contribution helped preserve and continue this 70-year-old tradition.
About the Festival
The “Gaudeamus" tradition began in 1956 in Tartu, and since then the festival has been held 20 times across the Baltic States. It is an important part of Baltic cultural and academic identity, promoting the preservation of traditions and encouraging young people’s participation in folk culture.
The festival plays a significant role in safeguarding the unique Song and Dance Festival tradition and strengthening unity among the Baltic States. The event is held alternately in each of the Baltic countries.
The festival is organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia in cooperation with the University of Latvia and the Riga City Municipality.
