At the Science House, the International Medical and Health Sciences Conference 2026 will take place on March 26, organized by the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences of the University of Latvia (UL FMLS). The conference will bring together approximately 600 participants throughout the day, including researchers, clinicians, students, and industry professionals.

The aim of the conference is to promote interdisciplinary scientific collaboration, facilitate the exchange of the latest research findings, and strengthen the development of medical and health sciences both in Latvia and internationally. The event serves as a platform for developing innovative ideas and fostering dialogue between academia, clinical practice, and the technology sector.

Internationally recognized experts will speak at the conference plenary session, including Professor Igor Sauer from Charité Clinic Berlin with the lecture “Extended Reality (XR) in Focus,” and Head of Innovation Development at LMT, Ņikita Kazakevičs, with the lecture “LMT AI: From Connectivity to Intelligence.”

The event covers a broad spectrum of medical and health sciences, including clinical and research medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and public health. The conference program is organized into parallel morning and afternoon sessions, covering areas such as public health and epidemiology, pharmacy, mental health and neuroscience, oncology, internal medicine, and various clinical specialties, including gastroenterology, surgery, pediatrics, anesthesiology, ophthalmology, pathology, and nursing.

A poster session and networking activities are scheduled for midday, which are particularly important for the involvement of young scientists, providing a platform for students and doctoral candidates to present their research, receive professional feedback, and build international connections.

For the first time within the framework of the conference in Riga, pediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and pediatricians will gather for a high-level international section on pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery. This section is organized by the Department of Family, Maternal and Child Health of UL FMLS and the Clinic of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery of the Children’s Clinical University Hospital, with participation from specialists from Charité Clinic Berlin and other European countries. Special emphasis is placed on the application of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence and big data analytics, in clinical practice. Following the theoretical sessions, physicians will have the opportunity to participate in a practical training session, “Precision, Automation, Standardization,” where they will learn modern echocardiographic diagnostic methods using automated analysis tools.

The Chair of the Conference Organizing Committee, Professor Mārcis Leja, emphasizes the importance of the event:
“This conference is an important platform for the exchange of scientific ideas and the development of new collaborations at both national and international levels. It is especially significant that we are able to bring together such a wide range of medical fields in one place. More than 600 participants—researchers, clinicians, students, and industry professionals—will engage in dialogue here that will drive the development of medicine in Latvia and beyond. The future of science starts here.”

The research presented and discussions held during the conference will make a significant contribution to medical practice and the development of public health, promoting evidence-based decision-making, the development of new treatment approaches, and improvements in the quality of healthcare. The conference also serves as an important springboard for future international research projects and the implementation of innovations in the clinical environment.
