On 8–9 June 2026, the University of Latvia (UL) Faculty of Medicine and Life Science hosted a meeting of the FORTHEM Alliance Food Science Lab at its Academic Centre in Torņakalns, bringing together researchers in the field from partner universities and UL.
The event welcomed Food Science Lab researchers from Université Bourgogne Europe (France), the University of Valencia (Spain), and the University of Opole (Poland), alongside scientists from the University of Latvia. Over the two days, participants presented current research in food science and nutrition, covering topics such as food quality and authenticity, sustainable raw materials, extraction and stabilisation of bioactive compounds, and the impact of nutrition on human health.
The programme included a scientific workshop, presentations, and discussions, as well as visits to UL research facilities and infrastructure. Participants also had the opportunity to explore the UL Academic Centre and the University’s Main Building, gaining insight into the study and research environment.
The main objective of the meeting was to identify shared research interests and strengthen collaboration, fostering the development of joint international project proposals for European research and innovation funding programmes.
The FORTHEM is an international collaboration platform that brings together academics from partner universities to develop interdisciplinary solutions in different academic and scientific fields. Previous in-person meetings of the lab have taken place at Université Bourgogne Europe (2020 and 2024) and the University of Palermo (2021).
