Three of Latvia’s leading universities, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), the University of Latvia, and the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies together with the Latvian Association of Dietetics and Nutrition and the Latvian Diet Doctors Association are inviting participants to the 4th International Conference 'Nutrition and Health’. The conference will take place on 5-6 December 2024. This conference is part of a joint intra-university collaboration for the Nutrition Science master’s study programme and will be hosted at the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre. The event will be held in hybrid format, offering an option for participating both in-person and online.

Abstracts will be accepted until 14 October (23:59). Registration will take place until 22 November. More information and registration links are available on the conference home page.

Lolita Neimane, Conference Organiser from RSU Department of Rehabilitation: ‘The conference will provide leading scientists, government representatives, as well as business leaders in food, nutrition, and health with a forum to disseminate and gather ideas and research results. International scientists will be able to participate online, while Latvian scientists will have the opportunity to participate either in person or online.’

The upcoming conference will explore a wide range of topics central to nutrition policy, public health, and epidemiology, with a strong focus on the role of nutrition science in preventing chronic diseases through informed dietary choices at all stages of life. Participants will examine the complex relationships between metabolic syndrome, sports nutrition, and metabolism, emphasising the development of health-relevant food products that prioritise food quality and safety, while also promoting sustainable food practices. Additionally, a key area of discussion will be the impact of microbiome alterations on health and disease, with insights into how maintaining a balanced microbiome can enhance public health outcomes and overall well-being.

The conference will feature Daniela Grach, MSc, from FH Joanneum – University of Applied Sciences in Graz, Austria, who specialises in applied nutrition science and nutritional therapy for kidney disease. Assoc. Prof. Ólafur Ögmundarson, from the University of Iceland, will bring his expertise on food systems, diets, and the impact on food security, linking his research to the United Nations Sustainability Goals. Prof. Janina Petkevičienė, from the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, will share her knowledge in preventive medicine and public health. Additionally, Assoc. Prof. PhD. Iuliana Vintila, a renowned figure in food science and engineering, will represent the University of Galati, Romania, and provide insights into global nutrition harmonisation initiatives.
