Research ethics

To protect the rights, health, safety, and dignity of research participants, prevent harm to research participants, society, and the environment, as well as to enhance the reputation of the University of Latvia as a scientific institution, the Medical Research Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Latvia operates to evaluate the ethical aspects of student scientific research. The committee is composed of the following members:

The committee's composition was approved by the LU MDZF Council Decision No. 23-4/16 on 13.09.2024.

Meeting Schedule and Submission Deadlines

Committee meetings take place on the fourth week of each month. Applications for review at the upcoming meeting must be submitted one week before the scheduled meeting, typically by the third Tuesday of the month by 17:00. No meetings are held in July and August.

Application Guidelines

  • Please use the new application form, which can be found under the section "Related Documents".
  • For anonymous surveys, it is recommended to use the professional online survey tool QuestionPro.
  • To contact the MDZF Medical Research Ethics Committee, please use the LU email address.

For LU Residents and Doctoral Students

  • LU residents and doctoral students must submit their documents for review to the Medical and Life Sciences Research Ethics Committee of the University of Latvia.
  • Detailed information is available here.

Document Submission

Documents for review can be submitted electronically or in printed form:

  • Electronically signed applications (with secure electronic signatures) should be sent to the email address: etika.medicina@lu.lv.
  • Printed and signed applications can be submitted at Science house, 1st floor, 3 Jelgavas Street. The submission box is located to the left of the entrance, on the way to the cloakroom and cafeteria, labeled "For document submission to the Medical Research Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences".

The composition of the Committee was approved by the UL FMLS Council Decision No. 23-4/16 on 13.09.2024.

The Ethics Committee for Occupational Safety, Ergonomics, Chemistry and Civil Protection Research is an collegial and independent institution that evaluates compliance with ethical principles, the balance of risks and benefits and the protection of the rights of research participants in research conducted by students from the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences of the University of Latvia in the fields of occupational safety, ergonomics, chemistry and civil protection.

The meeting is convened, and the student's application is reviewed within 10 working days from the moment of reception of the application.

Residents and doctoral students of the UL should submit documents for review to the Ethics Committee for Medical and Life Sciences Research of the University of Latvia. Detailed information is available here.

LU Medicīnas un dzīvības zinātņu fakultātes Bioloģijas, uzturzinātnes un sporta pētījumu ētikas komiteja izskata studējošo veiktos pētījumus bioloģijas, uzturzinātnes un sporta zinātnes jomās; kā arī skolēnu zinātniski pētnieciskajos darbos minētajās jomās.

Komiteja izvērtē un uzrauga studējošo zinātnisko pētījumu ētiskos aspektus - pētījumu dalībnieku tiesību, veselības, drošības un cieņas aizsardzību, nepieļaujot kaitējumu pētījumu dalībniekiem, sabiedrībai un apkārtējai videi, lai sekmētu Latvijas Universitātes kā zinātniskas institūcijas reputāciju.

Komitejas sēdes notiek katra mēneša otrajā pirmdienā plkst. 8:30. Iesniegumi izskatīšanai tuvākajā sēdē ir jāiesniedz vienu nedēļu pirms plānotās sēdes. Jūlijā un augustā sēdes nenotiek.

LU rezidenti un doktoranti dokumentus izskatīšanai iesniedz LU Medicīnas un dzīvības zinātņu pētījumu ētikas komitejai. Detalizēta informācija pieejama šeit.

Dokumentus izskatīšanai var iesniegt elektroniski vai drukātā veidā:
